The short version. Learn from these lessons as much as you like. Keep your access key to yourself. Do not republish the lessons as your own. The course is written with care but comes with no guarantee, and it is not a substitute for a qualification.
Using the site means accepting what follows. If you do not accept it, please do not use the site.
What this site is
Zehntence is a written course in German, currently covering the A1 level in 86 lessons. It is reading material with exercises built in. There is no teacher attached to it, no marking, no certificate and no qualification at the end.
Getting in
The first two lessons are open to anyone. The rest need an access key, which is given out by the author.
- A key is for the person it was given to. Please do not pass it on, publish it, or post it anywhere others can find it.
- A key can be withdrawn if it is being shared around, and it can be changed at any time.
- Keys are stored in your browser and stop working after 24 hours, so you will be asked for yours again from time to time.
- The lock on this site is a light one. It is there to mark what is paid for or private, not to be unbreakable. Working around it is still a breach of these terms.
What you may do with the lessons
Everything on this site, including the lesson text, the exercises, the quizzes, the wording, the layout and the design, belongs to the author.
You may read it, study from it, print a copy for yourself, take notes, and quote a short passage if you say where it came from.
Please do not republish the lessons in whole or in part, sell them, teach from them as your own material, feed them into another product, or copy the course and put your name on it.
If you want to use any of it for teaching or anything else beyond your own study, ask. The answer is often yes.
What is not promised
The German here is written carefully and checked, but no course is free of mistakes, and living languages vary by region, register and generation. Treat what you read as good guidance rather than a final ruling.
Nothing here is prepared for any particular exam, and finishing the course does not certify anything. If you need a recognised A1 qualification, sit a recognised A1 examination.
The site is offered as it is. There is no promise that it will always be available, that every link will work, or that any part of it will suit a particular purpose.
Things may change
Lessons get rewritten, reordered and added to. Whole sections may be replaced. The site may be taken offline. None of this comes with notice, and no version of a lesson is guaranteed to still be there tomorrow. If a lesson matters to you, keep your own notes.
Limits
To the extent the law allows, the author is not liable for any loss arising from using this site, from being unable to use it, or from relying on anything in it. Where the law does not allow a limit, such as for death, personal injury or fraud caused by negligence, nothing here restricts your rights.
If you are a consumer, these terms do not affect the statutory rights you have that cannot be signed away.
Which law applies
These terms are governed by German law, and the German courts have jurisdiction over any dispute arising from them. If you are a consumer resident elsewhere in the EU, this does not remove the protection of the mandatory consumer law of the country you live in.
Changes to these terms
These terms can be revised. The date at the top says when they last were. Carrying on using the site after a change means accepting the revised version.
